Yan’s research interests focus on statistical ecological modelling. Yan started her research from capture recapture study of animal abundance with the counting process techniques. In the last few years, Yan’s research interests moved on to species distribution modeling (SDM), the spatial habit modelling used to study the relationship between species’ occurrence and their environments. Of particular interest for Yan are the employment of regression type of models, point process models, and machine learning techniques to model presence-background data, presence-absence data and biotic interaction in joint species distribution modelling.
