I am a writer, researcher, musician and transport activist. My research explores the neoliberalisation of Melbourne’s public transport ticketing policies; how tramway workers understood the neoliberalisation process; how these policies changed our understanding of state power and public space; and posits what these changes means for our notions of “community” as we navigate 21st century capitalism. By exploring the use of tickets as a force of social control – which occur in both space and time my research contributes to critical debates about neoliberalism; the growth of cities; public transport infrastructure; the limitations of technology; public transport history; and public service.
