Overview

Accurate position information is essential to everyday life. Accurate position allows us to locate ourselves in the world and get to where we want to go. Space based satellite positioning technology such as GPS and SBAS have enabled accurate positioning and navigation we rely on at the touch of a button, from smartphones to autonomous vehicles.

This technology is improving productivity by allowing new technology to be created and used across the economy. The NPIC and SBAS infrastructure investment will bring increased productivity, improved community safety and boosted innovation. The technology is helping grow Australia’s digital economy in key developed sectors such as mining, transport, construction, aviation and agriculture. A recent reported economic benefits from a national SBAS have the potential to deliver more than $6 billion to the Australian economy over the next 30 years.
